RSVP Collection No. 52 - Entertaining with Mason

I grew up in a large family with parents who both had a farming background. Both from the love of the smell of dirt and the necessity of feeding the family, we gardened every season. The rows of veggies and berries seemed endless and the hot summer days at local orchards weren't our idea of a summer vacation, but we knew we would enjoy the freshest of foods during the summer and the long winter months ahead.

With this summer tradition of preserving foods from the garden and making the jams from the orchard, Mason jars didn't bring to mind entertaining fun. Boy have these jars of necessity come a long way!

Don't forget the swizzle stick straw!

Entertaining with the Mason jar is so full of inspiration. And holds a special place with me in party planning, as I know that anything you can prepare ahead of time is the key to a hostess who can enjoy a party, instead of running around missing good times with her guests.

BBQ in a jar! No muss, no fuss! Love it!

You can never have too many candles when entertaining!

Fresh veggies and hummus - this is so pretty and delicious!

Your pasta salad recipe will taste just a bit more fun!

Don't forget the dessert!

Prepackaged homemade ice cream!

Red Velvet yumminess!

Key Lime Pie!

I'm thinking I need to increase my supply of ice tea spoons! So the guests can get every last drop!

Show House Collage No. 1 - O'More Alumni Show House 2014

The After

The O'More College of Design Alumni Show House 2014 definitely breathed live back into the historic Dozier House in Tennessee, most recently known as the “old funeral home.” I love the use of a color palette from the Sherwin Williams Historic Collection.

Details, details, details - in the Grand Foyer!

See that amazing art piece by the piano?

Amazing close up.

Even closer - see the eye? Inspiring!

Tis the show house season! Don't miss the many opportunities to be inspired!

Rethinking the Look of Things No. 45 - Hang it On the Window - Dare You!

Do you see it? It is genius and I dare you to give it a try! Hanging art on the window!

For those of us with a vast collection of art we love, what a relief to have yet another area to hang it.

I had a design project a couple years ago where one of my clients moved to a smaller home, but couldn't bare to give up any of their artwork pieces. They loved every one of them. We ran out of room to hang them, and I pulled every trick in the book to find spaces. Solution was to hang some pieces in their pristinely clean garage. They loved it!

I'm rethinking places to hang artwork and mirrors. The images in this blog post are so inspirational! Now I can't wait to run out of places to hang things!

I dare you to do the same!

RSVP Collection No. 51 - Flavored Ice Cubes

Our favorite summer drink is all about the lip-smacking refreshment is offers us under the hot sun! Here are some great flavored ice cube idea to take it a bit further. And they are simple.

1. Strawberry Purée
Blend fresh or frozen strawberries with a touch of lime juice.
Try with › A vodka lemonade, a margarita.
2. Cucumber Purée
Purée the flesh and skin separately in a food processor.
Try with › A Pimm’s Cup.
3. Dried Orange Peel and Cumin
Grind together and add water.
Try with › A lime rickey.
4. Citrus
Squeeze and strain the juice of fresh lemons and limes.
Try with › A gin and tonic, a vodka soda.
5. Honey Simple Syrup
Use a two-to-one ratio of water to unpasteurized honey so the mixture will freeze.
Try with › A bourbon smash, a Tom Collins.

Flavored sparkling water or fruit flavored ice tea? Sprinkle blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries in your ice cube tray. Add water and freeze. You and your dazzling ice are going places. (Okay maybe just from the kitchen to the hammock. But that's some place.)

Tip: Use silicone ice cube trays for best results.

Your freshly brewed tea won't be the same!
