Well Dressed Home No. 7 - Movie Set Style

Here's "a little ditty about Jack and Diane.." (pun intended but not to John Mellencamp). Some people watch a movie multiple times because they love the story. I do that too, but I must admit I sometimes have to watch it multiple times because I've paid too much attention to the movie set and missed the story or need to revisit the set design again and sometimes again.

I'm guilty as charged every time I watch Something's Gotta Give starring Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. (This is the "ditty" in case you missed the connection.) An Architectural Digest article states that Director Nancy Meyers asked set decorator Beth Rubino to create a substantial Hamptons house for Diane Keaton's character. Ah, I'd say mission accomplished!

So put on the comfys, grab a bottle of wine, a block of cheese, crackers, fresh fruit and watch it all over again. You'll see what I mean.

Gotta Love No. 2 - Monograms

Monograms historically were reserved for royalty as a signature, then in Victorian times used as a symbol of your status. Vintage monograms are works of art, to say the least.

I found this alphabet monogram at one of my favorite antique haunts a few years ago. It was printed in the late 1800s and is only signed by the letter "D". It is said that the inventor of the linotype machine went crazy because of the very intricate work. I had it framed and gave it as a gift to a dear lady named Sue.

Wow, these images remind me I need to have special purchases monogrammed more often!

Monogramming for Individual:

You may choose to use either the first initial, last initial, or all three initials.

If a three-letter monogram with all three letters same size, the initials should go in the same order as the name. If the middle letter is larger then the other two letters, then the middle letter should be the initial of the last name.

Monogramming for Couple:

If monogramming for a couple as a rule of thumb, place the woman's first initial followed by the couple's last initial slightly larger. Followed by the man's first initial (same size as the woman's first initial).

Savile Row is a street in central London that is known for its tailors' shops that produce high end custom made clothing. Most people believe the term bespoke originated on Savile Row. In the fashion world, the word bespoke is used for men's clothing that has been custom made for a particular client. Haute Couture is the term used when referring to women's clothing custom made.

When it comes to skirted tables for the home, I prefer a "Savile Row tailor's touch". Fitted to the table it is covering-creating clean lines, hemmed to perfection-not bustled on the floor, a touch of panache whether in the fabric or the trim or contrast banding, and classic in its styling.
